Bible Doctrine of the Scape Goat

Our Lord Jesus came not to destroy the Mosaic Law, but to fulfill it. (Matthew 5:17) Through the Old Testament memorials of this Law, were three bodies of scriptures, dealing with the High Priest, the sacrificial blood offering of animals, and The Burnt Offering by fire, for the peace of the soul of man. How could even our Lord, one Person, actually fulfill this and be both Priest and two deaths as Sacrifices. Here we must stop to consider, the great Bible truth, of the separating or dividing of man’s spirit, soul and body. Years later the Apostle Paul challenges the church with this truth, in Hebrews 4:12 and in I Thessalonians 5:23. Christ’s perfect seven-fold salvation, produced Seven Covenants of Calvary from his seven suffering of death (Isaiah 53:4-8). It is complete for the believer’s spirit soul and body, and the new birth JUSTIFICATION is the first of our three-fold salvation. At that moment Christ enters to recreate our human spirit into a new creation spirit, where he indwells forever, and sin cannot enter (I John 3:9 and 5:18). This JUSTIFICATION is by the shed blood of our Lord at Calvary (Hebrews 9:22)The scriptures concerning it are largely in the PAST TENSE delivering the blood washed believer from the guilt of the sin nature within.

The second phase of our salvation is in our soul or mental senses, and is called SANCTIFICATION. This includes a daily need for the Spirit to wash our minds with God’s word. This washing our mind with God’s word saves us from the POWER of sin-habits. The scriptures used for sanctification are in the PRESENT TENSE. The third phase of Salvation is when the Lord will come and we receive our GLORIFIED BODIES. This will save us from the PRESENCE of sin, and the scriptures used for this are in the FUTURE TENSE.Our Lord’s name JESUS denotes his character and ministry, and is taken from the Hebrew word YESHUA meaning salvation which also means to make safe. We see these three separate ministries of Christ at Calvary, In II Corinthians 1:10 "Who delivered us (past tense) from so great a death, and DOTH deliver: (present tense)." In whom we trust he will YET (future tense) deliver us;" The Apostle Paul here strives to make clear to the believer, the TWO RELATIONSHIPS of our spirit and our soul senses, to God. We are made in the image and likeness of God, in two relationships of life, and we have three planes of ministry. When we die our body is buried, but our soul’s form (Isaiah 52:14) and our spirit’s form do not die. In Ecclesiastes 12:7 we read the spirit of man returns to God, as does his redeemed soul. But the soul of the unregenerated man is seen in Hades or Hell (Luke 16:19-31). You have always heard of the poor lost soul going to Hell, but you never heard of a lost spirit going there.

Now let us look at the 16th. Chapter of Leviticus, where the annual Feast of THE DAY OF ATONEMENT was celebrated by ancient Israel. On that day the High Priest had 12 acts to perform. Among them, which were all memorials of Calvary’s redemption, was to choose young goats for two deaths. The first goat chosen was to die as the blood offering in which the High Pries then took the warm life blood behind the second veil into the Holy of Holies and sprinkled the blood upon the Mercy Seat. Then later he must lead the second goat as the Burnt Offering for the soul sins, out to the eastern gate and lay hands upon its head. This was to signify the sins atoned or covered by the blood of the first goat, were to be carried away into wilderness, and the second goat was called the Scape Goat. There wandering in the deserts, bearing Israel’s sin away (Psalms 103:12), he finally died in loneliness, hunger, and thirst with the vultures tearing its flesh away from the dying body. This second death of the second goat called the Scape Goat, must also be fulfilled by our Lord at Calvary.

In Matthew 12:40 our Lord prophesied, "For as Jonah was THREE DAYS and THREE NIGHTS in the whale’s belly, so SHALL the Son of Man be THREE DAYS and THREE NIGHTS IN THE HEART OF THE EARTH." All Christian organized groups celebrate Easter, declaring the Lord Jesus died Friday evening and arose Sunday morning. This left him in the tomb TWO NIGHTS and ONE DAY. The two deaths of the two goats are born out in Isaiah 53:9 where the word "death" is PLURAL. Let us trace the ministry of our Lord’s SPIRIT as High Priest. But first let us see that the Spirit did not sin or die. In Luke 23:46 the dying Lord Jesus cried "Father into thy hands I commend my Spirit." The Father has just looked away from the dying BODY and scape goat soul, both laden with all humanity’s sins. (Psalms 22:1) So the righteous SPIRIT of Christ must fulfill the ministry of the High Priest, as Jesus Christ had to be both Priest and Sacrifices. Then in Luke 23:43 we read, "Today shalt thou be WITH ME in paradise" The Lordly High Priestly SPIRIT then carried the warm Life Blood of Jesus into Heavens Holy of Holies (Hebrews 9:12).

Then the High Priestly SPIRIT returned, in following the pattern of the earthly High Priest and led the Scape Goat soul down into Hades or Hell. In Psalms 16:10 we read, "Because thou wilt not leave my soul in Hell, neither wilt thou suffer thy Holy One (Body) to see corruption." This repeated in Acts 2:27. Then again to assure us it was Christ’s SOUL as the Scape Goat that went to die the second death, we read in the 10th. 11th. 12th. Verses of Isaiah 53rd.chapter the word SOUL " When thou shalt make His SOUL an offering for sin. He shall see the travail of His SOUL and be satisfied." "Because He hath poured out his SOUL unto death." Now let us turn to the 88th. Psalm and read graphic word picture of our Lord’s SOUL tormented with the divine wrath of the Father against sin, until his SOUL FORM lay still in death, in the dark domain of lowest Hell. In Psalms 88 we see the suffering of all poor lost souls in Hell. In Psalms 88:3 "For my SOUL is full of suffering " And in 88:6-8 we read, "Thou has laid me in the lowest pit" Thy wrath lieth hard upon Me. Thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves, I an shut up and cannot come forth."

He continues in 88:14-15 "Jehovah why casteth off thou my SOUL? Why hidest Thy Face from Me I am afflicted and ready to die." In midst of these sufferings unto death, the New Testament Church was conceived. Psalms 139:15-16, "My substance (church) was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance being yet unperfected; and in thy book (of Life) my members were written." Thus the purpose of God to create His Son a Bride, was perfected in the SOUL or Scape Goat’s suffering in lowest Hell, Even as sin was conceived in highest Heaven in Lucifer’s heart. In Ezekial 28th chapter and in Isaiah 14th chapter we can read the account. It was when the Heavenly Father looked down and saw the Son’s SOUL’S still form lying dead in Hades, that he came forth in the 18th. Psalm and with great wrath and power, entered Satan’s domain and breathed His endless Life into the still Form of the Scape Goat Soul. Then the SPIRIT of Christ entered the resurrected SOUL and overcame Satan in his dark domain, putting heal on Satan’s neck and took away the keys to Hell and the Grave.

Christ held those key in Revelation 1:18. The High Priestly Spirit had fulfilled I Peter 3:18-19 and gone down to preach to the righteous spirits in the prison of paradise. For paradise was in the HEART of the earth, and a great city of refuge to shelter the righteous. God could not take them to Heaven, until the redemption of Calvary, for they were under suspended sentence of death, protected only by atonement or covering of animal life-blood. The Apostle Paul gives us a brief picture of this in Colossians 2:15, "And having spoiled principalities and power, He made a show of them openly, triumphing over them IN IT. Christ the Scape Goat overcame death with death, even as his Spirit overcame Life with Life, and in lowest Hell, Satan’s power or authority over the believer, thru his self life, was taken away. He no longer has authority over any blood washed believer. in Christ, he now only has ability, as we yield to his fears.

There were six cities of refuge in Israel, mentioned in Numbers 35th. Chapter. Into these, men fled for refuge from the destroyer or avenger, and remained under suspended sentence of death, until the earthly High Priest died, then all could go home, REDEEMED by the DEATH of the High Priest (Numbers 35:25). The thief on the cross became converted, and received his commission, "Today thou shalt be WITH ME in paradise" Luke 23:43. Immediately after death, his spirit, the last to go into the city of refuge, paradise, also became the forerunner of the Spirit of Christ. He bore the good news that the High Priest was dead, and they could soon be released to go home, to Heaven. Then in Psalms 68:17-18 we take up the moving picture, and read, "The Chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands (of Angels)…etc. Thou has ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: Thou hast received gifts for men," etc. This is so important, it is repeated in Ephesians 4:8-10, "Wherefore he saith, when ascended up on high, He led captivity captive and gave gifts onto men. Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the LOWER PARTS of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all Heavens, that He might fill all things." Then follows his gift to the New-Born Church, His ascension gift of office ministries of the APOSTLE, PROPHET, EVANGELIST, PASTOR and TEACHER (Ephesians 4:11).

The great exodus of all righteous people out of paradise, and up into Heaven was the Old Testament "Day of Release" Golden Jubilee, of their Pentecost every fifty years, finally fulfilled (Leviticus 25th. Chapter). Now we blood washed born again believers in Christ await his return for his church. And as there was a BETTER RESURRECTION of the FIRST FRUITS of Israel, seen in Hebrews 11:35 and carried out in Matthew 27:52-53, there will be two phases of our resurrection. The true inner body of Spirit filled First Fruits of the full Overcomers to arise to meet him, as the Bridal Company (Eph. 5:27), and later purified in the unparalleled suffering of great tribulation (Matthew 24:21) where all Christians left rise in general resurrection (Revelation 7:14) Rapidly fulfilling Bible Prophecies proclaim the nearing event of Christ coming for His Bride. Which group will you be in, Those in the BETTER RESURRECTION or those in the general resurrection?

Following the Pattern of the High Priest and sacrifices in Leviticus the sixteenth chapter


First, He took His own blood into the Holy of Holy in Heaven. Hebrews 9:11-14 11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; 12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. 13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: 14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Secondly, He returned and led his scapegoat soul into hell where it was tortured and died. (Psalms 16:10; Psalms 88:1-18) Then his High Priest Spirit went to preach a three-day revival to the prisoners in Paradise. 1 Peter 3:18-19 18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: 19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; At this time the Father look down and saw the dead soul of his son in Hell. God came down from heaven and breath life into the soul (Psalms 18:4-20) Then the High Priest Spirit of Christ entered into the resurrected soul. Jesus at this Time defeated satan and took the Keys of Hell and Death away from him. Jesus still has them. Revelation 1:18 18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. At this time Jesus reentered and resurrected His Body and He began to return to the Father. First he Led Captivity Captive in leading the Old Testament Righteous out of Paradise to go to Heaven. Ephesians 4:8 8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. Along with the Old Testament Righteous he took the devil and his demons in chains of bondage as his slaves for a walk through the Arc of Triumph in Heaven. The next two verses of Scriptures are good news for us and are bad news for the devils and his boys. Colossians 2:14-15 14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. At this time also the Old Testament Saints that had received their better resurrection and their Glorified Bodies went up with the Lord. Matthew 27:50-53 50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. 51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; 52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, 53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. On his way in returning to the Father, Jesus stopped off the say hello to Mary Magdalene John 20:16-17 16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. 17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

Thirdly, Evidently, Jesus did return to the Father and came back for in Matthew we can see that they held Him by the feet. Matthew 28:9 9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. He was with them for forty days teaching them the things concerning the Kingdom of God and then he was taken up in a cloud. Acts 1:3 3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: and Acts 1:9 9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

Ten days later the Day of Pentecost was fully come and the disciples received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
